The first batch of 5 Harlequin troupers are done sans weapons. They have very dynamic poses, many of them are leaning quite heavily. Makes it look like they’re leaping and dancing I suppose.

I will be on vacation this week and will be returning Oct 2. This was a before-leaving update on the commission.

The next step in the Shadowsun squad. Commander Shadowsun herself and drones. I increased the brightness of the purple and put a bit more red into the trim. Since this is the reverse scheme of the rest of the army, the Broadside is going to be mainly orange with purple trim.

This is my first time painting her new scuplt. And I must say, Shadowsun has come a long way from her pewter origins. She looks so cool!

We have a small commission to change things up between doing many dozens of diamonds. Here is a WIP of Commander Shadowsun and her drone buddies. The regular scheme for this army is ochre/orange as the primary and purple as the secondary. But, as is tradition with Sahdowsun, I am doing the purple as the primary colour instead.

At first, I was going for a flatter ochre colour, but the shading lended itself to a more NMM look, so I went with it. I think I will work on the purple highlighting a bit more. I want to brighten it further so the blue shading I did on her isn’t so lost.

Team Yankee Soviets – WW3 Katyushas September 10, 2021

I first got into Soviets because my favourite vehicle in WW2 is the Katyusha Rocket launcher. We decided to get into Team Yankee instead of Flames of War because of the more modern units and strategies. I was very happy to find that the BM-21 Hail Rocket Battery was a unit and they look like a modern version of the Katyusha.

Like the rest of the vehicles in my army, I gave them a winter grasslands camo scheme with snow flock in patches all over. I expressly avoided putting snow close to the guns because I thought they’ve been firing and any snow would immediately evaporate or get shaken off.

I have finally got around to doing group shots of the completed jetbikes.

The past few stream sessions I was working on other stuff, but I haven’t forgotten about the Harlequins. I did all the bases for the infantry. The characters will be done separately, but the regular troupers get to be part of this batch.

I am pleased to show off my first of three converted Scourgerunner Chariots, finally painted. Some time ago, I put together three of these as my rendition of the Cities of Sigmar Scourgerunner Chariot. I game terms, the chariot is supposed to be a Drukhari/Dark Elf/Privateer model, but I made mine aesthetically human. Specifically, in my Middenheim blue/white colour scheme and Freeguild design.

For the other non-human units in the army book, what kind of scratchbuilds or conversions can I do on the monsters that could follow the Freeguild/human aesthetic? I’m looking into possible clockwork/steampunk works or several guardsmen in hydra hide for my initial ideas.

Another six riders are done. I like to alternate the patterns between each model to make the scheme more interesting. I haven’t glued any of them on, but I can still show them off riding the jetbikes with their buddies.

It certainly has been a hot minute since my last post on these guys, but rest assured, I have not forgotten about them. Today, I have a few pictures on some Phoenix Guard and an Anointed I’m putting together.

These are the last of the Phoenix Guard that I built up, though I still want another 6 to round off the unit to 20 models. As you may have noticed, I don’t use actual Phoenix Guard for the base of the minis. They are either old metal full plate Empire models or Greatsword legs with Knightly Order bodies and a mix of arms to hold a mix of different halberds.

As for the Anointed, I didn’t actually plan to make one for my army, just happy using my Freeguild General. But as I play the army, I am liking the Phoenix Guard more and more and though I should add one for more composition options. I had an extra pair of legs from my Hurricanum, then put it with Knightly Order bits for that power pose. The weapon is a High Elf great axe attached to a brass rod. Hopefully that represents a halberd well enough. Then, the greenstuff happened.

I have a small mold for doing chainmail I got from Greenstuff World that I used to do the mail skirt. I added in riding skirts, a belt, made his shoes armoured, and spruced up the shaft of the weapon. I added some teeth to the helmet and a wolf motif on the axe to keep up my Middenheim theme.

Further progress on the bikes. I have the riders on them. There’s still 4 jetbikes that need paint on them, but these are the 8 that I am painting in this batch. Most of them are the passenger, so the driver is still on my paint table.

The white is so bright that it’s hard to take pictures of these. These are going to make people do a doubletake when they walk by the battlefield.
