The next character from the Horus Heresy range is Anacharis Scoria. A Magos of the Mechanicus who is half man, half spider, and half scorpion, but mostly machine.

The yellow scheme is from a previous commission’s unit, the Ursarax. Though I went for old rusty metals this time. Without thumbs, Scoria finds it difficult to properly maintain his chassis. The little flesh he still has on his arms and face is pale and greyed. It makes his face look like it’s a mask.

Scoria looks very delicate, so I magnetized the legs and tail, and pinned him to the base without gluing. That should make transportation safer.

Alpharius enters the fray. This Forgeworld model comes with a scenic base depicting the Primarch kill a Space Marine. In this case, a Space Wolf.

I went for largely box art colours. The green metal accents and silver trim make for a unique colour scheme amongst the legions. The choice was to make the Space Marine an Imperial Fist or Space Wolf. I went with Space Wolf to keep the colours around Alpharius muted so the focus can stay on the Primarch.

The next model complete for the commission is an Ork Killbursta tank from Forgeworld. Lots of weathering all over the vehicle. It’s mostly silver paint on the top half and then lots of mud and dirt near the tracks. I made sure to put lots of dirt on the ram and make it look like the dirt is flying up the slope.

I forgot to post these here. But they ended up on my other social media accounts.

They are a couple of Xiphon fighters in White Scars colours. I masked off most of the hull in order to paint the canopy and get the sharp, straight lines for the red, since I used an airbrush for most of the painting.

All the dirt weathering I added were all in streaks. I tried to make it in one direction to give the feeling of the forward movement the Xiphons would be doing.

One of the fighters has a thin white stripe on the front triangle. Hopefully that will make it easier to tell which fighter is which.

After some time in radio silence, I present the first batch of the next commission. This new commission will have Horus Heresy White Scars, Sons of Horus, Mechanicum, and Orks.

This first batch is two Jump Chaplains, a Psyker from an Emperor’s Champion model, and an Ork boss from Grimskull Miniatures. There are alternative parts like the chain glaives and jump packs that were 3D printed or resin cast.

The bases for the Space Marines is a mud/trenchworks theme so water effects are added to the mud and a lot of weathering to the armour. I think it puts them into the scene very nicely. The glowing fist and sword of the Emperor’s Champion will hopefully convey that he is a psyker. He even has a book.

Been working on this for a while. I cut down on the 4x painting a lot and kept each step to under a minute. Still ended up being over 20mins XD. I will keep trying to expand on my explanations so there isn’t too much dead air.

Eventually, I want a 4K camcorder or at least an updated HD camcorder. The one I have is over 10 years old! I dream of a day where the colours are true and my details crisp.

What will be next?

Originally, these minis were Castigators from the Soul Wars set. There was only 3. So, not only they don’t hit the minimum squad size, I don’t like how they play. Looking through the book, I found I like how the Vanguard-Raptors seem to play. I like the number of shots the Hurricane Crossbows have, in particular.

All I needed were the fronts of hurricane crossbows (plus my custom wolf ornaments) to make this conversion.

I cut off the crossbow limbs, set aside, and flattened down the front. Glue the hurricane crossbow bit to the flattened front. The limbs have ornamentation on the base and tip. I cut those off and glue them to the top and bottom of the crossbow, just behind the front bit. This will make it look like scales of some sort, just nice detailing to make the weapon for interesting. Any gaps should be filled with greenstuff or the like.

The squad leader is holding a bolt for the greatbow. But since she no longer has a great bow I needed to think of something else. I couldn’t think of anything to replace it with, so I added some Stormcast helmet halos to make it some kind of flare/torch/lamp thing.

They only need 3 models to a squad, so we will see if I want to make more of them.

A small batch of Sequitors, most of them with the big hammers.

I got more bits to make 4 more Sequitors with the big hammers so my squads are round off to 4 or 5 minimum-sized squads.

Finished this awesome looking model and filmed it.

I customized the helmet to be more wolf-like and added some old Empire bits to make it closer to my Middenheim theme.

The Gryph-charger scheme is based off a Black-and-White Warbler. A tiny and cute bird.

Finished the first half of my Phoenix Guard unit. They are part of the elite forces of my army. They keep their uniforms particularly clean and their armour polished.

Their feathered helmets and magic halberds will make them easier to see since they are just fancy Freeguild Guard. I wanted to go for those shard glass or shard weapons that you’d find in Warhammer Underworlds.
