The next step on the Normandy is in progress. I have finally gotten the yellow strips to where I want them. I spent a painting session adding in the red squares for the window lights. I will be brightening the windows to yellow or orange and then bring it back with a few washes. I want the red glow to be much darker and the pin pricks of light to really stand out.

This is a very exciting piece to show off my progress on. I carefully filled in and sanded out a center hole in a normal stand to make a mold of what I will be using for character stands in this army. I hand laid the bricks on this and magnetized the quadrants. Why do this you ask? To attach tiny furniture.

In Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings, the characters get their own stands like the unit they are attached to, but they can be upgraded with a retinue instead of taking on the models from the unit the have been embedded with. Some people put them in a regular base as if they were part of the unit, some people make display bases. I am making tiny furniture that represents the retinue that I can add or take off as needed. The first pieces I have done are a tiny table and a weapons rack. The table is going to have a map on it.

I also decided to go a bit further and try my hand at NMM, after a very long time not practicing it. I think my blends still hold up and the lighting is pretty good, but I am still encountering the issue of colour. I am never sure what I want to add to get the tone I am looking for. I want to go for the reddish brass I have for the rest of my army, but right not it’s pretty much gold. I think I need more orange. So far, i just have most of the highlights, the shading hasn’t been touched yet.

This is one of the larger models I have gotten the chance to work with. First rounds of cleaning was a lot of sanding and adding a bit of filler to get those striations as minimal as I can. After that, I primed the model in black and white, in generally the areas I wanted. There are a lot of angles in the design of the colour scheme for the Normandy, so masking was necessary. I did the black first, so now I’m masking that to do the white.

The scheme with the yellow splashes has more of a warmer white, so I will be going for that when I build up the layers. I have to admit, I made a mistake in doing the yellow strip in the front. It’s supposed to zig and zag, but I only made it zag. I will have it fixed after I finish the white.

I have finally finished uploading part 1 of this painting video. This is just a walkthrough of me painting the model. I am going to redo the audio for part 2, before I finish it off, as the sound of my fan screwed with what I am saying.

So, I finally got around to making a painting video of this sexy model. Haven’t started editing it yet, but I couldn’t resist putting up the initial pictures. I think this came out very nicely.

I wanted to stay fairly close to the artwork that the model came with. Cutting the knife in half, colour scheme, etc. I did some OSL, so most of the shadows are painted, but I think I would have liked a harder contrast on the skin more. I also added in some gloss varnish to try and give her watery eyes, since she is crying in the artwork. Too bad the expression on the model doesn’t convey the fear on her face like the artwork does. And, I need to work on how to do semi-transparent clothing (the stockings) 😛
