Could this be it? The Normandy is complete? The detailing ended up being the red windows along the middle of the hull and the black lines all across the hull to make it looks like the ship has armour panels. I tried to slightly shade within those panels to make them look a bit 3D rather than lines I painted on after blocking in the main colours.

I added intake ports on the top and bottom of the ship, I assume they are some kind of intake port. Since they aren’t part of the printed model, I needed to paint them on freehand. Though I made a stencil to use for each one to make them as similar as possible. Hopefully they come out a bit 3D looking.

The stand is another 3D printed piece with a magnet in it. I painted it black so it might blend in with space backgrounds.

I was asked to add some lettering to the engines for some last details. Now I will be sealing this model for protection and sending it to its forever home.

While waiting for coats of Mod Podge to dry for the Normandy model, I got to painting my Bretonnians. I finished a stand of knights and a unit of Men-at-arms in an alternative colour scheme.

The banner designs are freehand. I thought about making stencils, but I’m doing different designs on each flag, so I don’t see it being too useful. I’m going for a common colour scheme between units that I would thematically keep together as a brigade, then have different schemes for different brigades.

They’re all done, done I say! Pictures needed to be done on the kitchen table because I don’t have enough room for all of them on my desk. There’s only like 50 or 60 minis in the commission, but all the magnetized options really increased the time it took by quite a bit! But I didn’t do the assembly on this one. All the basework was made of chunks of plastic Eldar flooring. Almost all the models have been magnetized and/or converted in some way. The bikes and Star Weavers are on ball magnets so you can rotate them as you want.

I put on all the riders for the vehicles and bikes. Most of them are not glued on or they are magnetized to keep them in place. The windows on the Star Weavers haven’t been glued on, but they can still show off the pilot I painted on the inside. Part of the challenge in painting the diamond design in different sizes is to make the layout relatively consistent even though they are being painted on different sized models. I really wanted there to be a center column of diamonds to anchor the design across all the models. I think it came out fantastic.

For all the infantry, it was a combination of diamond and vein designs on their chest, arms, and legs. Since they are orange as well, it looks like they are a lava or fire scheme. I felt like the scheme needed a small pop of blue and you can see traces of it on the different models. Either as a weapon and grenades, the baby blue colour really comes out and pops against the black and orange of the rest of the model. Some of the models have cloaks and I made them a dark blue and grey to add contrast against the orange. Those ones, I think, get more depth to their black as a result. Even though there are a few varieties to the same scheme in the army, the models are so dynamic and unique, I think it would have looked out of place if the models were too “same-y”.

The characters are pretty unique. A bunch of them are converted and look great. You can see a couple of them were kitbashed.

Look at all those extra arms to equip the troupers how you want!

3 more characters are now done. The first is a Troupe Master with magentized arms, an old pewter Death Jester, and a Shadowseer.

The Troupe Master gets a variety of arms. Holding a knife, different guns, or just an empty hand. He is one of the only models in the army without a mask. I think my favourite loadout is with an empty hand so it can look like he is barely balancing on the rubble.

I painted the Death Jester like the others. His cloak is black instead of a dark blue, but I gave that dark blue treatment to his jester cowl. Lots of diamonds as usual.

This was a unique Shadowseer. Fancy floating robes with smoke, fancy huge staff, and big hair. I went for a pale blue smoke with some purple shading. This took me a while to figure out. I knew I wanted the smoke to be blue and purple, just not the tone or brightness. I went for the higher contrast of a bright pale blue to separate it from the cloak.

I forgot that I didn’t post these pictures earlier, I had finished these a couple weeks ago.

First, we have 3 of the heroes. A couple Troupe Masters and a Death Jester. Next are the accessories. 3 turrets for Star Weavers are done as well as the weapons and windows. I wanted the windows to look like they are shielded or holographic so I added a bright blue glow to the top. I think it makes it look like the window is being projected out. I have also finished painting a bunch of hands and arms that were magnetized. I just need to figure out who can have what weapons.

The final 13 troupers are now done and they do sure look happy to be dancing around. Most of then still need their arms which are being worked on. With these done, all that’s left to do are the characters and some turrets for the vehicles. I can see the end!

This time, I didn’t take pictures by the time I finished another batch. So this time, I have 10 minis to show off.

The next batch is done. I’ll be doing everyone’s arms later. They are a mix of pistols and close combat weapons.

So many diamonds.

The first batch of 5 Harlequin troupers are done sans weapons. They have very dynamic poses, many of them are leaning quite heavily. Makes it look like they’re leaping and dancing I suppose.

I will be on vacation this week and will be returning Oct 2. This was a before-leaving update on the commission.
