The last 2 Termite Drills are done! Split into a yellow one and red one like the half termites. They are still dirty as if they just came out of the ground.

The yellow one is the one that got its insides painted and the doors left opened.

The red one had a door that was missing, so I had to cast it in greenstuff. It came out with a bit of a flaw so I decided to paint that part of the door as heat stressed and it kind of looks warped. So I think it works! There is a some burnt paint as well with a bit of beveling so it kind of looks like it has some depth to it.

All the termites have Volkite weapons equipped and in relatively pristine condition since they hide in their compartments.

This is the last of the first half of the commission. The next half is all jetbikes and marines. Exciting!

A couple of Termite Drill halves are done. I did the different colours of the army, Yellow and Red. Slicing Forgeworld models in half is a bit scary at first, but then the bloodthirst sets in and before you know it, resin dust is all over you and there are two halves sitting on the table.

There was a bit of work done to build up the dirt around the hulls too. So it looks like the dirt is being displaced by the Termites going into or out of the ground. I’m particularly pleased with the Termite going into the ground, where the dirt is welling up like a wave in the front. I even used 4 different materials.

Slate pieces and small gravel were used to build up the bulk of the dirt due to the sizes. Small ballast mixed with small pebbles formed the majority of what is covering the base. And finally, fine sand was added to the edges and corners on the tracks and hull so it looks like some is sticking to the vehicle.

I tried to get the weathering a bit more realistic. The Termite coming out has a lot of dirt all over, where the drill going into the ground has more dirt and mud concentrated to the front. The little gun ports on the red Termite are left quite clean since it opens and closes at will, so little dirt would probably get on the guns.

There are two more to go and will also be red and yellow, though they will be full Termites. One of them will have open doors.

Horus Heresy Space Marines, Orks, and Mechanicum Commission Update #5 – Anacharis Scoria November 25, 2020

The next character from the Horus Heresy range is Anacharis Scoria. A Magos of the Mechanicus who is half man, half spider, and half scorpion, but mostly machine.

The yellow scheme is from a previous commission’s unit, the Ursarax. Though I went for old rusty metals this time. Without thumbs, Scoria finds it difficult to properly maintain his chassis. The little flesh he still has on his arms and face is pale and greyed. It makes his face look like it’s a mask.

Scoria looks very delicate, so I magnetized the legs and tail, and pinned him to the base without gluing. That should make transportation safer.

After some time in radio silence, I present the first batch of the next commission. This new commission will have Horus Heresy White Scars, Sons of Horus, Mechanicum, and Orks.

This first batch is two Jump Chaplains, a Psyker from an Emperor’s Champion model, and an Ork boss from Grimskull Miniatures. There are alternative parts like the chain glaives and jump packs that were 3D printed or resin cast.

The bases for the Space Marines is a mud/trenchworks theme so water effects are added to the mud and a lot of weathering to the armour. I think it puts them into the scene very nicely. The glowing fist and sword of the Emperor’s Champion will hopefully convey that he is a psyker. He even has a book.

The last of the commission is complete 6 Ork specialists from Artel W and a kit bashed Mechanicum hero.

The Weirdboy and Bigmek are Deathskull schemed, lots of weathering. The Bigmek gets some soot and oil stains too.

The Painboy is quite the character carrying around a “patient”. I thought I would make it seem like the amputee lot quite a lot of blood so I made his skin pale and desaturated compared to the other Orks.

A bit of kitbashing was needed for the Mechanicum hero. He was awarded titan armour for his actions, hence the hodgepodge colours.

Almost done this commission. Here is a batch of 15 Secutarii Hopilites and a Sergeant. Largely the same scheme as prior Mechanicus but with a few bits of yellow sprinkled in. The Sergeant is one for the Secutarii in a previous commission, he is a bit different with more silvers used in the armour and a green glow on the weapon.

Only a converted Mechanicum mini and 6 Orks left to do and we will move onto World Eaters!

Finished the Ursarax for this batch. 9 minis, 6 of them with a pair of claws and 3 of the with a pair of fists. They all have blood on them, fresh from the fight. I made the ones with fists have a heavier splatter effect with pounding things to mulch might be a bit messier than chopping.

A great pick on the yellow scheme. The blood effects are easy to see and are very striking.
