This guy was fun to paint. I have finally had a chance to push myself a bit, to see what I can really do. Super happy with him. I managed to give different texture to the clothing, give his face life (sort of), and do some NMM.

I am most happy with the hat. It’s almost like denim or something. The face, I tried to paint the shadows on so I don’t need to rely ambient lighting to cast the shadows I want. The first image below has very few shadows from my lighting setup, for example.

The NMM bits include the buttons and the shoulder lapels. Feels good to do it again.

Started this guy tonight. The Tiger Ace Michael Whittmann 1/9th scale miniature bust. It took me the better part of the stream just to do the hat, around 2 hours. And I love the hat. I cannot get over how happy I am with the hat.

The texture is exactly what I wanted. Worn, sort of wool texture. A dark hat turned grey in the sun. I spent the better part of 10 minutes just appreciating my work.

Last year, I attended a painting masterclass with Alfonso “Banshee” Giraldes. This is the bust we all got. Finally got around to finishing it. Using the theory I learned, I only used red, yellow, blue, black, and white for all the colours on this model.

Wildly different from what I am used to, and I loved it. The next bust I’ll do, Tiger Ace Michael Wittmann WW2, will be more outside my comfort zone. Maybe no reds. That’d be interesting.
