I present, the Conquest. It was quite a pain to put together, particularly the legs, but I think it turned out quite well. More of the mud slush basing. I made an imprint in the snow behind the Colossal to give it more of an “in-the-world” feel, as it strides on the slushy battlefield. I also painted the Khador symbol on the base of the Conquest and tried my hand at some more weathering. Minor, single line scratches, to paint scraped or burned away at the arm guards.

Almost done. I just have the Conquest left to do. Super exciting.

Today, I have a whole bunch of models to show off. Black Dragon Pikemen, a Spriggan, a Devastator, and Supreme Kommandant Irusk.

Today, I have for you, eSorscha and an Iron Fang Kovnik. Like the other Khador models, these have custom mud slush bases. I have also worked in white elements to both their schemes. The Kovnik has winter camouflage on the shoulder armour. The Forward Kommander has white trim on her shoulder armour and a few other select spots. I have also painted the Khador symbol on the forward facing point on top of the line for an added detail.

A few more models have been completed. The Winter Guard Officer and Standard are now added to the rest of the unit. Fear the officer lady. Kovnik Grigorovich is also completed. His trim, unlike that with the Winter Guard, is white instead of black. Grigorovich is also sporting a fashionable winter camouflage cloak and a sword.

The Winter Guard unit is complete…minus the officer and standard. Otherwise, the infantry are having fun frolicking in the slush and mud.

The first model of the commission is complete. A Winter Guard Infantry. I went with the dark crushed glass slush base. I think it looks great.

Getting started on this army. The assembly is complete. We have eSorscha, eIrusk, a couple solos, Black Dragon Pikemen, Winter Guard, 2 Warjacks, and a Conquest. I am looking forward to these being painted.

With all that pewter about, I have pinned many of the pieces on quite a few of the models that could handle it. And those legs of the Conquest were quite the feat to put together. But it is done.

These models will also have custom muddy slush bases of which I have done another test base. A dark mud with crushed glass snow. I am not sure which one to go with, but it will be one of the crushed glass bases. I think I am leaning towards the dark mud base.

Here are a couple test bases for the Khador commission that I am starting. I have been tasked with creating muddy slush bases for the army. I think the lighter base has the churned and slushy feel down quite well, but the snow is not as apparent as the other base.

My recipe for the mud consists of fine sand flock, Forgeworld’s Rust Powder, some drops of Secret Weapon Miniature’s pigment fixer, and a few drops of water effects (black paint as well for the darker base), mixed together. The snow is then added on top while the mixture is on the base, more water effects is added to ensure the snow is adhered to the mud. I am trying out different colours and snows.

The darker base uses a snow flock on top, although it makes the snow more apparent, it is not a realistic as the Crushed Glass variant for the lighter base. I will try a couple more test bases, see if the crushed glass works with the dark colour.

And here are the last of the models for the Dark Vengeance armies. The Dark Angels Ravenwing bikers and the Chaos Space Marines Helbrute. Pictures of the two armies will be up later today, and then they will be shipped off to their forever home :)

A touching tale of wargaming.
